How to Refurbish Formica Countertops
Materials Needed
- Bucket
- Mild liquid dish detergent
- Clean cloths
- Baking soda
- Bowl
- Laminate adhesive
- Painter’s tape
- Wax
- Add warm water to a bucket and squirt in a few drops of mild liquid dish detergent. Use a clean cloth and the cleaning solution to completely clean the countertops.
- Use clean water and a cloth to rinse the soap from the counters. Remove any excess water with a dry cloth and allow the counters to further dry by air. Make sure you never leave puddles of water on Formica countertops because it can easily get underneath the laminate and cause damage.
- Create a paste with baking soda and water in a bowl. Apply the paste over any stains on the countertops and allow it to work on the stains for half and hour.
- Use clean water and a cloth to thoroughly rinse the paste from the countertops. Dry the counters with a dry cloth and allow them to further dry by air.
- Check the counters to see if the laminate is connected to the surface of the counters. Use an adhesive for laminate to glue the surface down and allow it to completely dry. Apply painter’s tape over the edges to hold the surface down for two complete days while the adhesive dry.
- Remove the tape. Use a clean cloth to apply wax to the surface of the countertops. Apply circular motions as you apply the wax. Take another cloth and buff the counters to a shine.
