How to Reinforce a TV Shelf

When reinforcing a TV shelf there are a few methods that are easiest in completing the job.  One of the easiest methods you can use is to secure the shelf with a secured board underneath the old one.  The other easiest method is to secure the shelf with "L" brackets.

Secure with a New Board

  • Begin by purchasing a piece of wood at any local home improvement store.

  • Ensure that the piece of wood you buy is as large or larger than the shelf you are reinforcing.

  • Ensure that you buy a type of wood that is strong enough to act as a reinforcer.

  • Start measuring the shelf length once you have returned from buying your piece of wood to reinforce the shelf.

  • Complete the measurements and then begin to modify the length of the wood you have bought if it needs to be modified.

  • Remove the television from the shelf that will need to be reinforced.

  • Retrieve any screws, nails, hammer or screwdriver that will be needed to secure the new wood under the old wood.

  • Take the modified wood and place it under the shelf's old wood and align it properly.

  • Begin screwing or nailing the new piece of wood under the old shelf wood, ensuring the the new wood stays firmly aligned while you affix it under the old shelf.

Add Brackets

  • Begin by purchasing "L" brackets at your local hardware or home improvement store.

  • Take brackets home and ensure that you have all the needed screws, nails, hammer or screwdriver to assist in secure the "L" brackets under the television shelf.

  • Remove television from shelf so that you can begin safely installing brackets.

  • Take brackets and other needed items to secure the brackets and begin to secure the brackets underneat the old shelf.

  • Ensure that brackets are aligned properly before screwing or nailing them into the wall.
