How to Remove Furniture Dents From Carpet

Have you ever had the urge to rearrange your furniture only to be faced with those pesky furniture dents in the carpet?  No matter how hard you tried to vacuum them up they continued to be a nuisance.  The sight of them takes away from the newly rearranged room.  By following one of these simple tips you can eliminate furniture dents from your carpet and have the nice finished space that your desire.

Ice cubes

  1. Once you have moved all of your furniture and vacuumed the room, count the number of carpet dents that you have.

  2. Get one ice cube per dent and place it in the center of each dent.

  3. Allow the ice cubes to melt, preferably overnight and the next morning blot any remaining water off of your rug.  Using a wide tooth comb or a carpet rake, and comb your carpet fibers back to a standing position.

  4. Allow these spots to completely dry and your carpet fibers should spring back to life.

  5. Re-vacuum and the spots should be undetectable.

Iron it out

  1. Using something hard with a dull edge like a coin, run it across your crushed carpet fibers to help to begin to lift them.

  2. Plug in your steam iron and set it to a medium cotton setting that will allow you to use steam.

  3. Using a damp cotton dish towel, place it over the dent and iron over the dent, shooting it with steam which will make the fibers spring back up.

  4. Let the spots dry and if necessary use your coin to stand the rest of the fibers up and re-vacuum.

Blow dry it out

  1. Wet a dish towel and wring it out, place it in the microwave for 30 seconds or until it is really hot (be careful taking it out of the microwave) and lay it on the dent.

  2. Using your blow dryer on the highest setting, hold it approximately 5 to 6 inches over the dent for approximately 30 seconds.

  3. Remove the towel and fluff up the area.  If it is still noticeable, cover and use the blow dryer on it again.

Steam cleaners

  1. Vacuum the area well.

  2. Stand your carpet fibers up using your fingers, a hard piece of plastic or a broom depending on the texture of the carpet.

  3. Run your steam cleaner over the carpet dents ensuring that the area is moistened prior to applying the steam.  Once the area is dry the dent should be unnoticeable.
