How to Repaint Aluminum Window Frames

How to Remove Paint From Aluminum Window Frames

Whenever you are painting around a window it is highly recommended that you use masking tape to cover the aluminum window frames to prevent paint from getting on them. There is a way you can remove the paint if you were to get some paint on the frame.

Items Needed:

  • Paintbrush

  • Paint thinner

  • Metal scrubbing pad

  1. Go to your local automotive parts store and purchase some aircraft quality paint thinner. It is considered the best type of thinner to use on aluminum. If you are not sure which brand to purchase you should consult with the salesperson on duty to get a recommendation.

  2. Put on a pair of rubber gloves to prevent your skin from being exposed to the paint thinner. There are several harsh chemicals in the thinner that could easily burn your skin.

  3. Dip a paintbrush into the paint thinner and apply it over the painted area on the surface of the window frame. This should be done to loosen the paint.

  4. Gently scrub the paint off by using a metal scrubbing pad. Do not scrub too hard because you do not want to damage the surface of the frame.

  5. Use water and a soft towel to rinse the paint thinner off the frame.

  6. Apply some more paint thinner on the window frame if you still notice some paint that was not removed the first time. It may take several applications before all of the paint is adequately removed.

  7. Rinse the frame again after all the paint has been completely removed.
