How to Remove Restricted Policies in Internet Options

If you do not want someone changing Internet options in Internet Explorer, you can restrict them from doing so. They will not be able to make changes such as changing the home page, delete their browsing history, change security levels, or manage their privacy settings.  You can remove restricted policies in Internet options in a few short steps.

  1. Click the “Start” button, type “regedit” in the Search bar and press “Enter.” The Windows Registry Editor window opens.

  2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Software / Policies / Microsoft / Internet Explorer on the left side of the page.

  3. Right-click on a blank area on the right side of the screen, click “New”, and then select “DWORD Value.” Name the DWORD value “NoBrowserOptions.” Double-click NoBrowserOptions and enter a “1” in the Value field. Click “OK” to save the changes.

  4. Close the Windows Registry by clicking the “X” in the upper right-hand corner.

  5. Close Internet Explorer and then reopen so the changes will take effect. When you reopen Internet Explorer, you will get an error message if you try to go into the Tools and Options menu. The message will say that you are restricted from seeing this menu.

  6. Delete the DWORD value that you created in the above step if you want to remove the restriction to the Internet options and have access to it again.

  7. Be very careful when working in the Windows Registry. You should not make any other changes while you are in there or you can harm your computer, and could even make it not work at all.
