How to Remove Scratches From Prescription Eye Glasses

Although prescription glasses are a necessity for many people, they can often be hard to care for due to the surface of the lenses being made of either plastic or polycarbonate. Both of these elements can easily become scratched if they are dropped. Fortunately, there is an easy way to repair minor surface scratches in your lenses.

Toothpaste

  1. Gather the things that you will need to repair the scratches in you glass lenses. You will need to have a soft cloth meant to clean glasses, toothpaste, and DVD repair kit.

  2. Apply a small amount of toothpaste to the area where your lens is scratched.

  3. Allow the toothpaste to sit on the scratched area for a few minutes, and then wipe it away with your cleaning cloth in a circular motion, polishing the toothpaste into the scratch.

  4. Use a clean part of you cloth to buff away any remaining toothpaste residue so that you can see if the scratch has been entirely filled in. If not, you can repeat the process.

CD Cleaner

  1. Purchase a DVD/CD repair kit from your local department or electronics store.

  2. Spray the DVD cleaner onto the surface of your lenses and then rub into the scratched area in a circular motion using medium pressure to ensure that the scratch is adequately filled in.

  3. Clean with an eyeglass cleaner so that all of the chemical residue is thoroughly removed.

  4. Inspect your lens to see if the scratch has been thoroughly filled in with the DVD repair kit solution.

  5. You can also use a product such as pledge or other wax-based furniture polish. This is also able to effectively fill in small surface scratches from the lens of your prescription eyeglasses.
