How to Remove Shelf Paper
There is nothing worse than shelf paper that won’t come up. There are many tricks to remove those last few pieces that refuse to go. You may have to try several methods before one works for you. Generally, the older paper will be tougher.
Once you have peeled away the majority of the old shelf paper, you will find there are areas that seem to be clinging for dear life to your shelf. Generally, newer shelf paper is made to pull up easily; older paper seems to have staying power.
Supplies
- Goo Gone
- Hair Dryer
- Mild Soap
- Scrub Pad
- Scraper
Method 1
1. Point blow dryer at shelf paper; try to go at it from an angle to blow at the edges of the paper. This will dry out the glue that holds it in place. It may take a few minutes to see results.
2. Insert scraper under edge of paper as the glue dries out. Use the scraper to lift the paper so you can get the hot air directed at the next section of glue.
3. Lift shelf paper off shelf and use scraper or Goo Gone to pull up the final pieces.
Method 2
1. Mix mild soap with hot water. Use scrub pad to apply the hot water mixture. Scrub lightly to help soak the paper and loosen the glue.
2. Insert scraper under the edge of the paper. Lift away from shelf a little at a time. Continue to scrape until all pieces have been lifted up.
