How to Replace a Buick Roadmaster Window Switch

Powered window switches make the operation of windows in a car much easier than the traditional crank. In most Buick Roadmasters, each door will have its own window motor, window regulator and window switch. The main window unit is located on the driver door. If any of the window’s switches malfunction, this will ultimately affect the power window and its ability to perform its job. Replacing these parts is relatively easy and manageable.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Trim tool

  • Replacement switch

  • Gloves

  1. Position the tip of the trim tool between the window switch and the door panel. The trim tool resembles a bent screwdriver with a wide, notched tip. It is important to use this specific type of tool to properly perform the job right. Pry the window switch from the door panel. This should be done with caution. The surrounding trim could potentially crack if too much pressure is applied to it.

  2. Disconnect the switch from the Buick Roadmaster’s power window wiring harness. Grab the body of the switch with one hand and the power window wiring connecter in the other hand. Use your hands to pull them apart to examine the wiring.

  3. Insert the replacement switch into the Buick Roadmaster’s power window wiring connecter by using your hands. It is best to wear gloves during this process as you will be working with sensitive, electrical wires.

  4. Press the replacement switch into the door panel using your hands. Do so very carefully and gently so no new damage is caused to the window switch or the door panel. The replacement of the old window switch to the new switch will be complete once the switch snaps into place.
