How to Replace a Putter Grip
Replacing a putter grip is easy to do at home with the right tools. The golfer should compare different grips to decide which one to buy as a replacement. If the new grip does not feel right the golfer can use a professional golf repair service to correct the problem.
Items Needed:
- Knife
- Glue remover
- Towel
- Grip tape
- Replacement grip
- Go to a golf shop to buy the things you need to replace your putter grip. Ask a store clerk to help you choose grip tape to use on the putter. You also need glue remover to get any dried glue off of the putter once you remove the old grip.
- Buy a replacement grip for your putter. Check in a pro shop at a local course to find some grips to choose from. Take your putter with you to compare the old grip with the grips the pro shop has for sale. Decide which grip to buy and then start working on your putter.
- Find a sharp knife and cut vertical strips along the old grip. Take the cap off of the top of the putter grip and then peel the old grip off of your putter. Get as much of the glue off of your putter as you can and then put some glue remover on a towel. Wipe the putter with the towel to get the rest of the glue off.
- Open the package of grip tape and apply it to your putter. Smooth the tape and then slide on the new grip. Press the grip cap firmly onto the top of the putter. Put your putter in a dry spot and let it sit for 24 hours.
- Inspect the putter to see if your replacement grip looks good. If the job did not turn out like you had hoped you can contact a professional golf repair service to fix it. Find out the cost before you take your putter in for service.
