How to Select a Putter Grip

The correct putter grip will enhance a player's hold over the club, which can allow the player to perform better. The putter grip is usually made of rubber or cord material to allow the player to grip the club firmly. It is important to select a putter grip that will give the best comfort and feel to help you play your best game.

  1. Consider the size of your hands. A golf club will not be good unless it matches your grip size. Grip sizes can vary by thickness, widths, and can either be standard, midsize or oversized. Look for club that is compatible with the length of your fingers and the size o your hand. Make sure that your fingertips in your top hold can touch your palm. Test out different putter clubs until you find the most comfortable hand fit.

  2. Check the surface texture of your grip. The surface texture helps to determine the durability of your grip as well as influences your shot. Corded grips often offer the most reliability, although rubber grips are usually more comfortable. Corded grips also offer more traction than other clubs, which can help reduce the frequency of having to get your club re-gripped. Although, corded grips cost a little more money than other clubs, for some it is worth the extra money.

  3. Consider how responsive your grip is. Your golf club grip affects the flight off the ball based upon how responsive it is. A thicker grip helps to keep your wrist from rotating during a swing. A thinner grip, on the other hand, allows rotation in your hands and will work well if you are more prone to fades and pushes. Knowing the movement of your wrist during a swing will help you to pick a grip accordingly.
