How to Restore Antique Guns

Antique guns can be very valuable, and you will want to preserve them for the future. If they aren’t in good shape, however, they won’t be worth very much. If you own an antique gun that is not in good shape, broken, or rusty there are some things you can do to restore it and get it back in shape again.

  1. Find a gun dealer that you can trust. You can look online, look for gun shops in your area, or ask other gun collectors. Make sure the gun dealer is reputable. Have them examine the antique gun. It may be too far gone and not worth restoring. If the gun is in good enough shape, then you should restore it.

  2.  Look at the gun and see if it has been tailored in any way. If it has, check to see if it is easy to fix by replacing the parts with original parts. If major changes have been made to the gun, such as cutting down the barrel, it may not be worth restoring.

  3. If the gun is restorable, start looking for original parts for it to replace the parts that are changed, missing or damaged. You can look online for parts, as well as checking local gun shops in your area. Asking other gun collectors can be a big help, as they may know where you can purchase original gun parts for your antique gun.

  4. If you cannot find original parts, consider using reproduction parts. Find a gunsmith who is able to modify the parts to make them match with the older parts on the antique gun.
