How to Restore Rattan Furniture
Woven pieces are interlocked together to create rattan furniture. Rattan furniture resembles wicker furniture. If it has become dull from the weather or frequent use, it can be restored to look like new. The process is simple to accomplish in one day.

Materials Needed
- Water
- Bucket
- Mild dish detergent
- Sponge
- Towel
- Primer
- Paint
- Mix water and five drops of mild dish detergent in a bucket. Dip a sponge in the cleaning solution and use it completely clean the furniture. Clean underneath, in the cracks and behind the legs on the furniture.
- Pour the cleaning solution out of the bucket and rinse it. Fill the bucket with clean water. Use a sponge and clean water to thoroughly rinse the soap away. Turn the furniture over so the water can easily drain from the furniture.
- Use a clean towel to completely dry the furniture. Allow the furniture to dry by air for three hours. It should be completely dry before the primer and paint is applied. Get underneath the furniture as well.
- Coat the rattan furniture with a can of primer. Make sure the can is at least 12 inches away from the furniture while spraying. Use side-to-side motions. Allow the primer to dry for one hour.
- Coat the furniture with two coats of paint. Allow each coat to dry before applying the second coat. Keep the can 12 inches from the furniture while painting the furniture.
