How to Restore a Collector Car

Collector car and/or antique cars are a sound investment. Depending on the make and model you could purchase a collector car that requires major restoration for a relatively cheap price. Once it is fully restored you could either keep the car and enjoy it or sell it for a large profit.

  1. Conduct a web search to find an original photo of your classic car's make and model. Type the make and model of your collector car into Google. Then click "Images." Once you locate a collector car image that matches your collector car click on the image to redirect to that website. Determine the exact name of the paint color used for your car.

  2. Select a body and paint shop that does not specialize in restorations but is willing to take on the job. If you opt for a shop that specializes in restorations you will pay more than double for your collector car's body and paintwork. Take your collector car to your selected body and paint shop and get an estimate for the cost of the body and paintwork.

  3. Locate a low cost mechanic and/or a student studying mechanics at a community college unless you have mechanics experience. Hire this mechanic to determine which parts of the engine and/or transmission are faulty.

  4. Visit a junkyard known to have parts for your collector car. Purchase the parts that you determined were faulty in step 3.

  5. Clean out the interior to determine which areas are in need of repair. If necessary order these items from a collector car website. A simple web search should point you into the right direction for making these purchases.
