How to Reuse Old Clothes
Old clothes have more uses than the dumpster or the thrift store. Make new embellishments and accessories using the clothing or add some spunk to another article of clothing. Reuse your used clothing to save money and refresh your wardrobe.
Materials
- Glue gun
- Glue sticks
- Large gems, buttons or other embellishment
- Sewing kit
Methods
- Use the old lace off an old dress from your closet or the thrift store to create embellishments that you can add to your clothes. Update a headband by making a flower design with lace. Glue the lace onto the headband. Finish by gluing a large bead, button or feather to hide the glue underneath it.
- Use an old pair of jeans or a skirt to make a handbag. Cut the legs off the pants and use a seam ripper to open up the pants inside seam. Cut a strip of the widest part of the pant leg off to use as the bottom of the bag. Sew the two lower sections together with the piece of cloth running the center of the bottom to create a bag with a wider bottom that allows you t find your belongings. Buy purse handles at a craft supply store or make a strap out on the legs of the pants.
- Make rags out of your old clothes to use when you fix things around the home. Use rags to soak up spills, store in your car in case you need to add oil to your engine or as dusting cloths. This saves you money on new rags and recycles your clothing for more uses.
