How to Save Money on Kids Uniforms
Some schools require students to wear uniforms for a variety of reasons. For many parents, school uniforms are a welcome change; however, affording these uniforms can be difficult. There are some money-saving tips you can employ to keep your costs down.
Buy Used
The best thing you can do to save money on kids’ uniforms is to buy them used. For parents of public school kids who have simple uniform requirements, this will be easy. The solid colored blue or black pants, shorts, slacks, skirts and jumpers and the white or black button-down shirts required at many public schools can be easy to find at any second-hand store. You can find a second-hand store in your area or you can attend a kids’ consignment sale in your area.
Go to Consignment Sales
Consignment sales often offer lower prices than second-hand stores, because they only last three to five days and those pricing the items are the consignors themselves, rather than store owners with overhead costs to consider. Plus, these sales often have 25 to 50 percent off most of their items during the last days of the sale.
Search Thrift Stores
If the items at a half-priced consignment sale are still not cheap enough, you may be able to find items a little cheaper at a thrift store. Since good items at these stores can go quick, you may need to stop by regularly to see if you can find kids’ uniform items that fit your child.
