How to Screen in a Covered Patio
A covered screened patio is a great addition to any home. It will provide you with an outdoor space that you can enjoy during the summer months that will offer you protection from bugs and other outside pests. Screening in your patio is not as hard as you may think. You can easily screen in your porch with a few simple materials.
- Purchase numerous pieces of 2" x 4" lumber that is carpenter grade from your local home improvement store.
- Secure the frame to the floor by drilling holes into the floors frame using lag bolts and a heavy duty wrench to secure them in place.
- Attach finishing boards to the ceiling from the floor support using finishing nails in order to secure them in place properly.
- Space your studs three feet apart to accommodate your screen. Most screens come precut in three-foot sections.
- Cut down numerous 2" x 4" pieces of lumber to three-foot sections.
- Install these pre-cut three-foot pieces of lumber at the top surface of your vertical support beams to provide you with a surface to secure your screen to. Use finishing nails to secure these to the other lumber.
- Continue this process until you have installed the perimeter around the entire top of your screened porch. Be sure that these are properly secured into place with plenty of finishing nails.
- Attach your pre-cut screen sections to the screened porch in three-foot sections using a staple gun and staples in order to properly secure the screen in place.
- Apply plenty of staples so that your screen panels are thoroughly secured to the lumber that is spaced three feet apart. Be sure to stretch out the screen when applying so that it forms a tight fit.
- Trim any excess screen that is over the length that you need to stretch from one section to the next.
- Continue this process until you have applied the screen sections to all areas around your new screened porch.
