How to Secure Your Home for Vacation
It is important that you know how to properly secure your home when you are away on vacation or gone from your house for an extended period of time. Don't leave your house unprepared and potentially in danger of being burglarized or vandalized. There are a few steps you can take to ensure your home is safe while you're on vacation.
How to Secure Your Home for Vacation
Lock all windows and doors including those in the basement, garage and attic.
Disconnect all electrical appliances.
Ask a neighbor to retrieve your mail, newspapers and any other deliveries you may get while gone.
Do not completely close window shades and draperies on the street side of the house.
Leave your itinerary and house key with a neighbor, relative or friend.
Display an alarm system sign on your lawn to discourage potential burglars.
Arrange to have the lawn mowed while you are away.
Connect lights to automatic timers and set them to turn on and off in the evening.
