How to Select Garden Furniture

Choosing garden furniture may seem like a tedious task as there are many different styles and materials to choose from, but with the proper research you can have a furniture set that fits your family and lifestyle perfectly. You will be considering all aspects of furniture buying such as the material, cost and budget, maintenance and style to get the look you want for your outdoor areas.

  1. Set a budget for the garden furniture you wish to purchase. Take into consideration different pieces you will need such as a table, chairs, chair covers and maintenance like paint for certain furniture materials that rust over time.

  2. Choose a furniture material that fits within your budget. Plastic furniture is the least expensive closely followed by wicker. Solid wood and metal garden furniture will cost you more money but last longer.

  3. Decide how much furniture maintenance you are willing to do for your garden furniture. Not only is plastic furniture the least expensive, but also the easiest to maintain; you only need to hose it down or wipe it off when it gets dirty. Unfinished teak furniture will need to be oiled about once a year to prevent it from becoming a silver-gray color and certain metal furniture will need to be painted about once a year in order to prevent rust.

  4. Choose garden furniture that fits your own personal style and usage preferences. If you want a casual furniture set for your patio, plastic or wicker will do, while you may want to choose metal or wood if you are going for a more contemporary look.

  5. Keep your comfort in mind when choosing garden furniture by sitting in the furniture seats when you are shopping to ensure they will be a good fit.
