How to Start a Wholesale Jewelry Business

How to Sell Wholesale Jewelry to a Large Retailer

Do you make your own jewelry and have your own business selling it? If so, you may wish to step up your sales by selling your jewelry at wholesale to larger retail outlets. If you plan to take your business in this direction, you need to make sure you can supply large quantities and meet the demands.

  1. Check with the state that you live
in to see what the registration requirements are to operate as a
wholesale jewelry business. The registration helps your business not
have to pay sales tax on some of the items you supply. You do need
to have a tax ID prior to selling to any retailer, but if you own
your own business, you most likely have your tax ID.

  2. Come up with a great company
statement as well as a personal statement. This helps retailers that
want to buy from you know what your company is about. In addition,
the retailers you sell to may use your personal statement to share
with their customers to boost sales. Therefore, take your time and
make sure your statements are well-written and clear.

  3. Think of jewelry that sells well
and that you can produce large quantities of quickly. If you are
working with a large retailer, they will place bulk orders, this
means you need to be able to meet the demand. If you do not, you
will surely lose the relationship and business deal with the
    retailer.

  4. Choose the wholesale price for
your jewelry. Make sure that there are not different retail prices
that customers can find. For instance, a customer should not be able
to shop online for a cheaper price than a retail outlet, if they
can, retailers will not want to sign a contract with you. Therefore,
if you sell a specific ring, the retail price should be the same for
a retailer as it is for online sales. Hire help as needed to ensure
that you are meeting the demands of your customer orders.
