How to Import Wholesale Jewelry

During these crazy economic times with the Dow Jones going up and down at its own whim, it is good to have a side business to help you get through hard times. No matter how bad the economy gets, people will always want to buy jewelry. Some people are choosy with their jewelry selections; therefore, a few jewelry pieces will need to be imported from some place else.

  1. Ask local jewelry sales people or store owners where they receive their jewelry imports. Short of alienating a fellow importer of jewelry because she thinks of you as competition, this is a good way to find someone that is reliable. If you feel uncomfortable asking about where she gets her imports, ask if she knows of any good leads. Make her feel comfortable by letting her know that you are just getting started, and that is why you chose to ask an expert such as herself for help.

  2. Go to the flea markets and ask jewelry  kiosk owners where their jewelry was imported from. These people use jewelry importers, and they might feel a sense of kinship of struggling to make it in the jewelry selling business. Just be sure to let the business owner know that you will keep your business a respectable distance away from his.

  3. Look for the next jewelry tradeshow. Do a search engine check for the next one coming to your city or state. There are sure to be jewelry import companies there. Get some business cards ready to be handed out and make some much needed connections.

  4. Order the jewelry. Once you get your connection, place your order, which usually requires a certain amount to even be considered. Do the following: ask about the minimum amount needed for ordering to get the best price; select your pieces; ask about policies concerning if the piece that you ordered isn't available, is there a refund policy and pay for the jewelry. Now, onto the customers.
