How to Send a Fax to a Hospital
Hospitals often require patients or clients to fax documents to them, such as insurance forms or copies of a bill. When sending a fax to a hospital, it is important to include a cover letter so the hospital will know whom the fax is intended for.
- Find the hospital's fax number. You can contact the hospital by phone to find it, or look for it on any paperwork or bills you have received from the hospital. Many hospitals have different departments, each with its own fax number. Be sure you are sending the fax to the right department of the hospital.
- Create a cover letter for the fax. The cover letter should say whom the fax is intended for and whom it is from. You can also include a subject on the cover letter. If you are sending the fax to a doctor in a certain office number or department number, include the number on the cover letter. If someone other than the intended recipient receives the fax, she will know who or where to deliver it to. Place the cover letter on top of the other documents that you will be sending to the hospital.
- Place the cover letter and documents in the fax machine. Every machine is different, so read the directions on the machine or in the instruction manual to determine how to load the paper. The cover letter should be the first page that is sent.
- Use the keypad to enter the hospital's fax number into the machine.
- Press the "Send" button to send the fax to the hospital. Watch as each page of the document passes through the machine. When the fax has been sent, the fax machine will print out a confirmation page.
