How to Shop for Sport Eyewear for Youth Sports

The type of sport a youth is going to play will affect what kind of eyewear to choose for protection. The price may depend on whether or not the youth cares what the eyewear looks like. Explain to a youth who does not want to wear protective eyewear that preventing an injury is more important than looking stylish.

  1. Research the type of eyewear that is appropriate for the sport the youth is playing. Have the youth with you when you do the research. Ask the youth’s coach for recommendations on the type of eyewear to use for the particular sport. If you know the parents of a child who wears sports eyewear you can also ask them for a recommendation.

  2. Try a sporting goods store first to find youth eyewear. Ask a salesperson what eyewear is popular among youths who shop at the store. Let the youth try on a few different pairs of glasses or goggles to see which pair fits the best and is the most comfortable.

  3. Find out the cost of the eyewear that the child likes. Make sure the eyewear provides the proper protection for the child. Check another sporting goods store to compare the costs before you make a purchase. Write down the prices from each of the sporting goods stores that you check.

  4. Search online for websites that sell youth sports eyewear. Let the youth pick out a pair of glasses or goggles that are appealing on the website, then check to see if the cost is within your budget. Bookmark the web page and then search for another eyewear website to compare the different prices.

  5. Set up an appointment with an optometrist if the youth needs to have prescription eyewear. Many eyewear stores also offer glasses or goggles that have a non-prescription lens. Decide which store or website has the eyewear for the best price and then finalize your purchase.
