How to Spot Fake Chanel Designer Eyewear

Chanel sunglasses generally cost between $150 to $500 for a brand new pair.  You find Chanel sunglasses at a great sale price, but are they real?  By using good judgement and knowing the correct questions to ask, you can avoid buying fake Chanel sunglasses.  Always remember that if the deal is too good to be true, it probably is.

  1. Examine the sunglasses carefully.  Chanel sunglasses are luxury items.  The lenses and frames should feel solid and be well made. The lenses should fit snugly into the frames with no gaps.

  2. Examine the hinge.  It should be well made and work smoothly.  The arms should line up with the frames. There shouldn't be any color on the hinge area that is inconsistent with the frames.  Chanel sunglasses should have interlocking Cs on the arm of the frame.  Make sure the Cs are not too large or small or look strange or out of place.  Make sure the logo is a solid color and it is not crooked.  Sometimes a fake logo will just look off somehow.  Trust your instincts.

  3. Examine the serial numbers and other Chanel markers.  On the outer portion of the left lens there should be a vertical serial number consisting of two letters and seven numbers. Inside the arm of the sunglasses there should be numbers that identify the arm length, bridge size, color code and model number.  You can also look these numbers up online to verify they match the correct style of sunglasses.  "Made in Italy" should be stamped on the opposite arm.

  4. Ask for the accessories box consisting of a cleaning pouch, a hard case, a certificate of authenticity and a warranty booklet.  If the glasses are used, these items may not be available.  If the glasses are new and come from a reputable dealer, they should be able to provide these items.
