How to Spot a Counterfeit Titleist AP2 Iron
The Titleist AP2 set of irons is one of the hottest sellers that you can find in most pro shops. As is often the case with successful and expensive brands, knockoffs start to appear. Don’t be fooled by counterfeits; make sure that you have bought the real thing.
- The irons are not being sold by a licensed retailer. Because there are so many counterfeits being made in China, they are pouring into retailers such as Craigslist and eBay. To make sure that you are getting the real deal, go to a licensed Titleist retailer. You can rest assured that they will have genuine AP2 irons.
- Check the lettering on the clubs. Sometimes the words “Titleist” and “Forged” are crooked. The lettering should be neat and straight on the club head. If it is not, then it is not a genuine club.
- Look for an official-looking sticker on the club head of the iron. Real AP2’s do not have any type of sticker on the club head. If it does, it is not genuine.
- Check the grips and shafts. Often, these are the most forgotten part of the club to a counterfeiter. The grip and shaft is often neglected, as so much effort is put into a perfect duplication of the club head.
- If you are in doubt, take the club in question to a local pro shop and ask for their advice. Often, they will hold your club next to a real AP2 so that you can get a side-by-side comparison.
