How to Start a Computer Service Center

Computer service centers are in high demand. More and more people are using computers and many have no idea how to fix minor, much less major, issues. Computer savvy entrepreneurs who can fix these problems at a reasonable price can soon find themselves successful with lots of paying customers.

You need

  • Desks

  • Network cables

  • Electrical outlets

  • Surge protectors and UPSs (Universal Power Supply)

  • External hard drives and thumb drives

  1. Set up in a location with multiple electrical outlets available. If the space is in a home, there is good chance that additional outlets need to be installed. At a minimum, there should be one outlet on each wall, two on longer walls. You need to plug in multiple units to work on more than one computer at a time.

  2. Add a UPS to each power outlet on the wall. Choose UPS' with long battery life. In the event of a power failure, it could take some time to power down multiple computers. Having UPS can back up the computers until you have a chance to shut them down. Choose a UPS that has battery backup and surge protection.

  3. Add long, sturdy tables to the space to hold up to five computers at a time. Put tables against the wall, leaving small gaps for power and monitor cords and network cables.

  4. Buy an assortment of external hard drives, thumb drives and other portable storage devices. Customer data needs to be backed up before you can fix a computer. Sometimes the fix requires resetting to the factory default condition, and all personal data is lost.

  5. Add wireless Internet service to the place of business. Patches and fixes sometimes require a connection to the Internet.

  6. Advertise the services offered with local computer stores, the local library and a senior center.
