How to Start Up a Bridal Shop Business

How to Start a Flower or Bridal Shop

There are millions of weddings performed each year. A flower or bridal shop combines two things that a bride needs. It's important to market your new business so people know about your shop. Certain steps need to be followed when starting this business.

  1. Choose a location that makes it easy for people to find. Make sure the size of the shop has enough room especially if you’re going to sell both flowers and bridal items.

  2. Think of a name for your shop. Fictitious names need to be filed with state or local offices as a fictitious name statement. You do not need to file if your own name is used as part of the shop name.

  3. Take care of legalities right away. Contact county or state offices about a seller's permit. The chamber of commerce or other store owners may have information about legalities that need to be followed.

  4. Determine the type of bridal items you want to sell. Deciding on the type of market you want to sell to can help you figure out what kind of bridal items to put in your shop.

  5. Set the prices for your merchandize. One way to do this is compare the competition. Also, set the prices according to the quality of your merchandize. Sales tax needs to be charged if you’re selling directly to customers.

  6. Market your business by setting up a website and offering a report to create a list. Send regular emails to your list to remind them of sales or special events. You can also create businesses cards to hand out.
