Sometimes disaster strikes or something else causes home damage. People need the services of a home repair company to fix this damage. Whether it's due to a natural disaster, the basement floods, fire, termites or a number of other things, there is always business in home repair.
- Get licensed to start your home repair business. In order to start any business you will need a business license first. Check with your state to learn the requirements to qualify for a business license and how to apply for one.
- Buy the tools you will need. Some home repair services only specialize in particular types of damage. For example, they may only fix fire damaged homes. Other services will fix just about anything. The type of home repair service you choose to be will weigh greatly on the supplies you will need in order to do the jobs. Most home repair companies will need basic tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, saws, drills and wrenches. You will also need a vehicle that is large enough to house all of your tools and can carry ladders. A big truck or a large cargo van would suffice.
- Hire at least one employee. Even though many businesses can be started with you being the sole employee, home repair services ideally need at least two. There are a lot of things that will need fixed that will be very difficult for only one person to do.
- Advertise your new home repair business. There is normally a home improvement section in the newspaper you can place an ad in. Other advertising ideas include building a website, billboards, local radio and television ads and business cards.
