How to Start a Wedding Planner Agency
Starting a wedding planner agency takes a lot of research and preparation. Some wedding planners work from home when they first start out, then they move to an outside location after their business grows. Finding clients for the agency is the planner’s biggest challenge, especially if the business is in a small city.
- Decide whether to run your wedding planner agency out of your home or in a separate location. Finalize all of your business licensing and banking requirements so you can begin to look for clients. Meet with an accountant if you need help structuring your wedding planner business.
- Create a brochure to help you find clients for your agency. Work with a graphic designer or artist if you need help with the brochure. Take your final copy to a nearby printing company and have some business cards made up by the printer to include inside each brochure.
- Take brochures to businesses in your area to help you find clients. Drop off a brochure at stores such as bridal boutiques and flower shops. Make a list of all of the stores you want to visit, so you can plan your route in advance to save on travel time.
- Set up a website to use for promoting your wedding planner business. Search online to find existing websites to help you get some ideas to use. Make sure that your website is easy for a user to navigate, and include plenty of information about your past experience.
- Advertise your business in the yellow pages and your local newspaper. If you live near a large metropolitan area, you may want to advertise there as well. Find out the cost for each place that you want to advertise to make sure you have the funds available. Keep track of how many calls each ad generates every month to get an idea of how effective your advertising method is.
