How to Stop Couches From Sliding on Hardwood Floor
Hardwood floors can be a beautiful addition to any home. Unfortunately, furniture can often slide on hardwood. This can scratch the floor, and poses a safety risk to those sitting on the furniture. With a small, low-cost modification you can keep this from happening.
Items needed:
- Furniture leg pads
- Hot glue gun
- Glue sticks
- Nails
- Hammer
- Purchase pads for the bottom of the couch. These pads are specifically made for couches that rest on hardwood floors and keep the couches from sliding. If the couch has legs, buy a pad that will fit the base of the leg without overlapping. If the couch has no legs, purchase the largest pad that you can.
- Turn the couch over. The couch must be placed so that the bottom of the couch is facing up. This will allow you to make modifications as necessary to the bottom.
- Nail the pad to the bottom of each leg if the couch has legs. Be mindful of the depth of the nail; the nail must not stick out from the bottom of the leg. If it does, the legs will not sit properly once you turn the couch over and the nails will gouge the wood floor.
- Glue the pads directly to each corner of the couch if the couch has no legs. Use the hot glue gun for the best results. Allow the glue to dry for about an hour.
- Turn the couch back over and place it in the desired spot. It should not move again after you have made the modification.
