How to Stop Dog Chewing and Barking
Dog owners experience behavioral problems from their pets. Dogs can react to change just the same as children do, so bringing a new pet into the family, having a baby, a change in work schedule, or just moving can create issues for the dog.
New puppies tend to chew and bark more than older dogs do. Puppies are cutting their teeth and when the new teeth are coming in they will chew almost anything. This can damage your furniture, shoes, and clothing, if you do not adjust the puppy's behavior. Older dogs can develop chewing and barking problems. It is crucial to begin modifying the behavior when it first starts so the dog knows what is expected.
- Increase the amount of exercise
the dog. Dogs become mischievous if they are not getting enough
exercise. This is especially true with puppies because they have
large amounts of energy. All dogs should exercise several times a
day beyond just walking the dog. Good exercise ideas include
swimming, running, fetching, or hikes. - If the dog is barking excessively
while looking out a window then cover the dogs view or rearrange the
furniture so the dog cannot look at the window. - Chewing is normal for puppies but
you can alter what the puppy chews on by supplying several chew toys
and bones placed where they are easily located. Puppies will chew on
almost anything so limit what is left on the floor or in the puppies
reach. - Consider getting another dog to
provide company for the dog. Puppies especially need company because
they miss their mothers and siblings. - As a last resort use a water spray
bottle to spray the dog when barking or chewing. It will take time
but they do not like being sprayed.
