How to Strap a Row Boat to a Car
If you have been putting off a much needed trip to the lake because you do not have a truck or trailer to haul your row boat you should consider strapping it to your car with ratchet straps. Ratchet straps are fairly easy to use and can help to securely transport your row boat.
It is not uncommon to see people going to the lake with their row boat strapped to the top of their car. If you have been considering hauling your boat in this manner it is easy to do by following a few simple steps.
- Put the boat in an upside down position on top of the car. If the car does not have a rack for the boat to side on it is recommended that you place some pads on the sides of the boat to prevent it from scratching the surface of the car. Make sure it is sitting even and not obstructing the view of the front or back windshields.
- Place a ratchet strap over the front of the boat and attach the ends to the carrack on each side of the car.
- Place another strap over the back of the boat and attach it to the carrack. Make sure both straps are tight and secure.
- Tie a third strap to the front of the boat and secure it on the fastening loop and the other end to the chassis at the front of the car.
- Tie a fourth strap on the back of the boat and secure it to the back of the car.
- Check the side straps to make sure they are still secure after tightening the front and back straps.
