How to Support a Truck Camper
A truck camper should always be supported regardless of if it is in use or being stored. Truck campers are often supported by the truck hauling them. If you are removing your camper from the truck for camping is should be supported using camper jacks and additional supports.
Tools
- Three sawhorses
- Three pieces of one foot by 3 feet plywood
- Level
Instructions
- Locate a flat surface. The ground should be solid and dry. Cement or gravel packed surface is ideal.
- Back your camper into the chosen location.
- Detach the camper tie downs from the vehicle. Unplug all power and lights from the truck.
- Raise the camper approximately 6 inches higher than the vehicle using the camper jacks. Raise the front and back jacks a few inches at time to avoid uneven weight distribution. Drive the vehicle slowly from under the camper once the camper is clear.
- Move three sawhorses beneath the camper's sub-floor. Position one across the rear of the camper, one across the middle and one across the front end.
- Place one piece of plywood onto the top of each sawhorse to distribute the camper's weight and to protect the bottom the camper.
- Lower the camper down onto the sawhorse supports in increments of a couple inches at a time. Ensure the plywood stays in place as the camper bottom approaches the plywood. Once the camper subfloor makes firm contact with the supports stop lowering the camper jacks. The camper weight should be supported by the camper jacks. Using a level ensure the camper is resting flat.
