How to Take Black and White Photos
Black and white photography is a beautiful art form that many will practice and experiment with. This is a very popular style of photography for people to display in their homes and in galleries. To get great photos of a subject, there are a few different tricks that you can try, even if you’re camera doesn’t have a black and white setting.
- Find the black and white setting on your digital camera. You can do this by using the digital screen or by using the user manual to adjust the settings. Take a picture and see that it appears in black and white to be positive that the setting is applied. If there isn't a setting like this, you can instead use a photo editor later to make the pictures black and white. Still follow these steps accordingly for best results.
- Diffuse the flash on your camera. This is going to eliminate any unwanted shadows that can commonly appear in black and white photos. You can do this by simply cutting a small piece of tissue paper or sheer paper and taping it over the flash of the camera. The tape will not damage the device and is easy to remove.
- Use natural light outdoors or find a bright space to photograph your object. This could be a room with many windows, or a space staged with a lot of lighting. For black and white photos, the brighter the environment, the better the pictures will turn out.
- Focus the camera, and take the black and white shots that you wish to get. Check to make sure that there are no strange shadows in the pictures that you’re taking, and move the objects around until the problem is resolved.
- Upload your pictures to a computer and edit the photos as you wish. This is easy to do with many different prgorams that you may already have on your computer. Adjust the brightness and contrast as you see fit.
