How to Take Underwater Photos
Taking pictures is an exciting hobby that many people turn into a professional career. One of the great things about photography is that you can photograph anyone or anything wherever you may be–including underwater. You must have a waterproof camera, which is available in disposable and professional styles. Here is how to take underwater photos.
Determine your subject. Do you want to take pictures of people in the water? Are there animals in waters you’d like to photography? Maybe you see some beautiful coral that begs for a picture. Wherever you are in the water, decide what or whom you’d like to photograph.
If you are in the water with your subject, you are more likely to get better pictures. If you’d rather place the camera in the water from the edge of dock or pool so you don’t get wet, that is also acceptable.
Should you decide to get in the water with your subject, you may need goggles, a mask and a snorkel to help you see and breathe underwater.
Make sure the camera is on and set to take pictures underwater.
Follow your subject and focus your camera on several different aspects of the subject. For instance, you may want to take a picture of several fish swimming together and then a fish swimming by itself. You can take a close up picture of the fish as you get closer to it.
In order to get the best picture, you will need to take several pictures. Sometimes pictures taken underwater develop differently and you may get different looking pictures of the same subject.
Try to stay as still as possible as you take the pictures. Whether you are in the water or just holding the camera under the water, the picture will be clearer with steady hands.
Be creative and have fun. If you are taking pictures of kids in the water, ask them to make a funny face or blow a kiss underwater. Surprisingly, these pictures always turn out great.
