How to Teach Sewing Lessons

Sewing lessons are in high demand. These lessons are essential in the fashion industry, as sewing is the method of creating merchandise. Individuals who possess sewing skills and the required educational background could turn a hobby into a lucrative career choice in the teaching industry.

  • Teach sewing lessons at a high school. Home economics and/or housing classes provide sewing lessons. Qualifications for these teaching positions are master degrees, teaching license and experience in the field.

  • Accept a job as a fashion-merchandising professor at a college or university. A fashion merchandising degree program consists of courses that include sewing lessons. With the right qualifications, experience and sewing skills you are eligible for this college teaching position.

  • Coordinate teaching lessons in your community. Community centers are designed to offer lessons and events. Utilize your local community center to design and offer sewing lessons to citizens in your community.

  • Determine which arts and crafts stores offer to host classes. Arts and crafts stores host several demonstrations and classes throughout the year. These demonstrations and classes are offered to customers for a fee. Arts and crafts stores host these events to promote sales of their merchandise. Meet with the store manager to set up arrangements to teach sewing classes at your preferred arts and crafts store.

  • Place ads in your local newspaper to offer private sewing classes to adults seeking these lessons. Offer these sewing lessons in your home or through a rented space in your local area.
