How to Test Golf Equipment

By testing golf equipment, a golfer can determine if it is the right type to buy. Many golf shops have clubs that a golfer can try out before making a purchase. The golfer should make sure to take more than just a few swings with the clubs to decide if they are the best kind to buy.

  1. Decide which type of golf clubs to buy and set a budget for the purchase. Read reviews in golf magazines or go online to help you choose the best clubs for your golf game. If a friend who has a set of clubs that you like will let you try them out, that will often help you narrow down your club choice.

  2. Go to a golf shop and ask to speak with a salesperson. Let the salesperson know the type of clubs you want to buy. Find out if the shop has a set of clubs that you can test. Inspect the clubs before you test them to make sure they are in good condition.

  3. Use the golf shop’s testing area to try the clubs. Some shops have advanced testing equipment that will allow you to swing the club in the shop and watch the flight of the ball on a video screen. Give the clubs a good workout to see how they perform.

  4. Take the clubs to a driving range to test them. Buy several buckets of balls and swing each club at least 10 times. Vary your grip and swing speed when you test the clubs to help you determine if they are the right ones to buy.

  5. Test the golf clubs on grass. A driving range has a mat surface, so trying the clubs on grass is a true test of how well they perform. Use your normal golf swing with each club and make sure to pay attention to your accuracy after each swing.
