How to Thread a Singer Sewing Machine

Threading a Singer sewing machine can be frustrating if you have never done it before. It is not as easy as it sounds, but it will get easier with practice. Once you get the hang of it, you should be able to thread the needle in a matter of seconds. The only thing needed is good eyesight to see the small hole and good aim.

How to Thread a Singer Sewing Machine

  1. Raise the needle on the sewing machine to the highest position by turning the hand wheel toward you.

  2. Lift the presser foot so the thread can easily pass through the threading points.

  3. Place a spool of thread on the spool pin on top of the sewing machine.

  4. Pass the end of the thread through the designated threading points on top of the machine casing and down toward the tension assembly. The tension assemble controls the flow of the thread and is located on the left side of the sewing machine.

  5. Push the thread through the lever at the top left of the machine and through the threading points at the bottom left and above the needle.

  6. Thread the needle and pull a few inches of the thread through the eye and pull it to your left.

  7. Hold onto the end of the thread that has been threaded through the needle.

  8. Turn the hand wheel toward you until the needle disappears into the bobbin case.

  9. Keep holding the thread and moving the hand wheel until the needle is once again at its highest point. When the needle comes up, a loop of bobbin thread will come up as well.

  10. Pull the thread out toward your left to bring the loop further out of the bobbin case.

  11. Let go of the top thread and pull the bobbin thread up until the end comes up.

  12. Pull both pieces of thread under the presser foot and to the back and right of the sewing machine.
