How to Tie a Jiu Jitsu Belt

When you are first learning how to tie a Jiu Jitsu Belt, it will take a lot of concentration and practice before you are able to do it automatically. The process is not all that complicated and you should find after a few times of practice that you would be able to tie your belt without giving it a second thought. The following steps will guide you in the process.

  • You should make sure that you are holding the Jiu Jitsu belt with both hands in order to take hold of the ends and place the belt evenly around your waist. You will need to be able to wrap your belt around your waist two times so check to make sure that you have the right size.

  • Start by placing one end of the belt just below the belly button and wrapping the rest of the belt around your waist. When you have wrapped the belt around the waist area two ends should be hanging in a downward position.

  • You will need to take the end on the left and bring it across the end that is on the right. You should be able to tuck the left end under the belt closest to you bringing it back around to your front. If this process is completed correctly then you should have both ends pointing down.

  • Now you are ready to make the knot by holding both ends in your hands pointing out straight in front of you. Take the left end and angle it toward the right end. The right end is now over the top of the left end and back up from the bottom.

You should have completed the knot and now you only will need to straighten up your Jiu Jitsu belt, leaving the knot directly under your belly button.
