Adding some tiles to the arches of doors and windows can add a nice and clean look to them. It is a great way to decorate the windows and doors. A good way to get natural light is to use glass tiles on the archways. Installing an archway is extremely easy and requires simple tools.

Materials needed:

  • Level

  • Sponge

  • Glass cutter

  • Clean cloth

  • Painter's tape

  • Pencil

  • Notched trowel

  • Grout

  • Shim strips

  • Tile spacers

  • Putty

  • Sandpaper

  • Safety glasses

  • Household detergent

  1. Take off any wallpaper or paint that is on the archway. Fill up any holes with putty. Using sandpaper, smooth the whole surface of the archway.

  2. Clean the surface of the archway using the household detergent. Give it some time to dry completely.

  3. Put some painter's tape around the edges of the archway to prevent mortar from damaging the surface.

  4. Using a notched trowel spread out the grout on the archway. Start at the bottom of the arch and put tiles on the grout. Put a spacer between all of the tiles.

  5. Level all of the rows of tiles after you have pressed them in the grout. As needed, make cuts to the tiles to make sure that they fit as they should. Shape it as you would like it to be.

  6. Use some flexible shim strips to hold tiles into their proper place until they have dried to the grout. Once the grout has dried all of the way, you can remove the shim strips.

  7. Using your finger, add some grout in between all of the tiles. Using a sponge or a wet rag, take off any grout that is not wanted. Let the grout dry.

  8. Using a clean rag and household cleaner, clean the tiles. If you would like to have them shine you can spray some glass cleaner on the tiles.
