How to Train for a Bodybuilding Competition

Bodybuilding competitions take place all over the world and require proper training prior to the competition. Your overall health, nutrition and diet are all important when training for a bodybuilding competition. Making sure you train properly and monitor your success will help keep you on track for that big bodybuilding competition day.


  1. Set goals for yourself.  Have a specific size goal and body fat percentage that you want to achieve. Work with a trainer to make plans to reach these goals and to ensure that you are staying on track.

  2. Don’t over exhort you body while weight training. Your body no longer reacts to the same types of exercises after about 75 minuets of weight training. Your training would not longer be effective. Make sure you give your body rest and time to recover from your workouts.

  3. Include cardio in your training routine and to variety in your training. Cardio will help to keep your heart healthy and your body percentage to a minimum while training. Your body quickly adjust to your routines so mixing up your workouts as you train for your competition is important

  4. Create a sensible diet ant nutrition plan. Training for a bodybuilding competition requires that you eat lots of vegetables and lean proteins. Make sure to eat as few carbs as possible in the week right before the competition. 

  5. Monitor your progress as you train for your competition. Measurements and photos are great ways to monitor your progress. Have a trainer monitor your progress on a regular basis to keep you on track. To make sure that you get the results that you want, alter your training routine as needed.
