How to Treat Body Piercing Rejection and Infection

Body piercing has become a popular trend in today's society among the young and old. There are many different varieties of piercing such as corset piercing, eyebrow piercing, nose piercing and lip piercing. With the rise in such piercings, body piercing rejection and infection has also increased tremendously.

How to Treat Body Piercing Rejection and Infection

  • Avoid applying bandages over the area for more than one day. The friction between the skin and bandage can cause more irritation, which can trigger more rejection.

  • Do not remove the jewelry when the area becomes infected. Deeper infection can be created when the jewelry is removed. It is okay to remove the jewelry after the infection has healed.

  • Soak the pierced area with a salt and water solution to clear the infection and promote healing. This will not only clear the infection but also prevent the rejection of the piercing.

  • Visit the piercer so they can monitor the piercing to prevent serious problems such as infection and rejection.

  • Using a triple antibiotic ointment is a good way to keep your body from rejecting the piercing. However, it is better to have the piercer remove the jewelry and come back later for a new piercing.

  • Avoid touching the area too often, especially if your hands are not clean. The piercing should remain as it is so the area can heal properly.

  • Seek medical attention if the salt and water solution or antibiotic ointment do not treat the infection.

  • Do not use alcohol or peroxide for infections. They are too harsh for the new piercing and can kill healthy bacteria. These products can also affect the skin that prevents piercing rejection.
