How to Troubleshoot a Portable Icemaker
On a hot summer day in the park there is nothing like a portable icemaker. However, if your portable ice maker is not working properly, its essential to get it in proper working order quickly. Troubleshooting the unit for common problems is fairy simple. For those more technical malfunctions you may need to contact the manufacturer.
What You'll Need:
- Manufacture guide
- Refer to the manufacture's guide to locate the storage tank or reservoir. Once you've located it inspect it to see if the "Low water" indicator light is turned on. If so, pour water into the storage water tank, but pay particular attention to the maximum fill line. If this is the problem, refilling the water tank should make the indicator light go off.
- Take out the ice inside the ice basket if the indicator light labeled "Ice" is turned on. When this light is on it is an indicator that the ice basket is currently full. You'll need to remove the ice and store it in a freezer before the portable icemaker will begin making ice again.
- If both the "Add water" and "Ice" indicator lights are on and blinking, remove the ice cubes from the ice machine. This alert could mean that the ice shovel is somehow blocked. If you remove the ice it will unblock the shovel and turn the indicator lights off.
- If the ice cubes inside are sticking together, power off the portable icemaker and allow the ice cubes inside to melt. If the ice cubes are commonly stuck together, it could mean that the ice making cycle is too long. Press the button labeled "Select" and change the size to "Small". This step will re-start the cycle preventing your ice cubes from sticking together in the future.
- Consider moving the icemaker to a cooler location. Only complete this step if the portable icemaker appears to be in proper working order but is not producing ice. An area that is greater than 90 degrees Fahrenheit may not be conducive for the ice machine to produce ice.
