How to Use 2x4 Lumber as a Patio Edger

Using 2x4 lumber as a patio edger is one of the many ways that you can edge the patio and create a barrier from the patio into the grass that will help keep mud from dirtying your patio. Using 2x4 lumber is the economical way to edge the patio and keep things looking nice and neat. Edging the patio in this way will result in a nice finish in just a weekend.

  1. Measure the edge of the patio so that you purchase the correct amount of 2x4 lumber.

  2. Dig up the dirt around the edge of the patio so that your 2x4 lumber will fit.

  3. Measure the dug out section so that you know for certain how much lumber you are going to need.

  4. Take your measurements to the hardware store and purchase the needed amount of lumber.

  5. Place the lumber one by one into the hole that you dug out. These pieces of lumber should sit flush with each other.

  6. Once all the 2x4 lumber is laid, fill in the remaining space with your dirt that you removed. This will help the boards from moving so that they can be easily walked on without rolling or slipping.
