How to Use Krav Maga Fight Techniques
Krav maga is an Israeli developed self-defense system, and is regarded as one of the most effective in the world. The techniques are used by Israeli security and military forces, and have been simplified to be able to be taught in gyms and martial arts academies throughout the United States.
One of the foundational principles of krav maga is to leverage the body’s natural responses in combat and other dangerous situations, in order to gain the upper hand to control and end fights quickly and safely.
- Discard the notion of “fighting fair." Accept that there is no such thing as a fair fight, so understand that you should fight dirty throughout combat. The object is to do everything and anything possible to end the fight quickly.
- Master the correct fighting stance. Krav maga has its own fighting stance that is unique to its style, and it is used to mount attacks on your opponent. Begin with the feet shoulder width apart, which is known as the “neutral stance." Transition into your fighting stance quickly and smoothly. Slide your dominant leg behind you by six to eight inches. Ensure that your dominant leg rests on your toes, which will result in a bend in the knee. Position your elbows in towards your body with your hands up.
- Strike smartly and swiftly. Ensure that each blow is strategically implemented in order to inflict pain on your opponent. Accomplishing this will mean learning vulnerable spots on a potential opponent, and repeated practice to ensure you can hit those spots quickly, and with maximum force.
- Assess threat levels. Krav maga students learn to deal with immediate threats first, and then mount a powerful counterattack quickly and effectively.
