How to Use a Lawn Edger
Lawn edgers come in both gas and electric models; however, both types perform the same task. The purpose of a lawn edger is to remove grass from hard-to-reach areas while creating a straight and even line to achieve a neat and tidy finish. Using a lawn edger is not hard and will make a huge difference in your yard landscaping.
- Determine the type of lawn edger you are using. Each type of lawn edger uses a different starting process so it is essential to determine the type you are using.
- Plug in an electric lawn edger to a power source. You may need to run a heavy-duty extension cord from the electrical outlet to the edger so that you have enough slack to easily move around the yard.
- Pull the pull-string on a gas-powered lawn edger to start it. This process simply requires you to pull up quickly on the string to start the motor of the lawn edger.
- Place the edger between the grass and other surface where you are edging, such as a driveway or sidewalk. Walk slowly with the edger ensuring that you keep the edger straight.
- Remove the edger when you have reached the end of the sidewalk or driveway that you are edging.
- Repeat this process for all areas that you are edging until you have created a neat edge on all desired areas.
- Turn of the lawn edger by either releasing the handle for an electric model, or by hitting the "Off" switch on a gas-powered model.
- Store the lawn edger in a garage or storage shed when not in use to prevent it from being exposed to the elements so that it does not become worn down or corroded over time.
