How to Use a Pizza Stone

If you love to make pizza from scratch or even bake frozen pizza, a pizza stone will cook the crust to perfection. Pizza stones are made of a porous stone, such as terra cotta or condensed stone. These types of stones retain the heat to evenly cook the pizza.

How to Use a Pizza Stone

1. Place the pizza stone on the lowest rack in your oven. Set the oven temperature to 500 degrees F and preheat the pizza stone for 20 minutes.

2. To cook a frozen pizza simply place the pizza on a cookie sheet or pizza peel (a pizza peel is a large flat wooden spatula shaped paddle) sprinkled with cornmeal. Slide the pizza onto the stone and cook as instructed.

3. If making your own pizza from scratch; place the formed dough on the cookie sheet or pizza peel that has been sprinkled with cornmeal and top with your favorite toppings. Slide the pizza onto the pizza stone and bake for approximately 10 minutes or until the crust is golden.

4. When the pizza has finished cooking, slide the cooked pizza onto the cookie sheet or pizza wheel. Slice and enjoy!
