How to Use a Smoker Grill and Learn the Smoking Process
Smoking food adds a particular flavor to the dish that is like no other. Although the process may seem to be a bit overwhelming for a beginner, as long as you have the proper equipment, you can learn how to smoke your own foods.
Things You Will Need:
- Smoker
- Instructional Books
- Shop for a smoker that allows you to add heat to the grill without placing the fire directly on the food. For instance, the heat must come from a different area and allow the smoke to consume the area of the food you are smoking.
- Read over some of the instructional books that are available that teach you the smoking process. Some good examples to start with include: Mastering the Craft of Smoking Food by Warren R. Anderson, and Smoking Food: A Beginner’s Guide by Chris Dubbs and Dave Heberle.
- Purchase grilling books if you are a complete novice. These types of books will teach you the basics of working with a grill in the first place. Since the smoker is a different version of a grill, the basics are a necessity in order for you to learn the smoking process.
- Begin using your smoker for different functions at your home, or when you are cooking dinner for your family. After all, practice makes perfect, so put the skills you have learned to work. When cooking, it is important to ensure your meats are cooked to the appropriate temperatures. For instance, if you are cooking hamburgers, make sure they cook to at least 145 degrees. For chicken or turkey, make sure they cook to at least 180 degrees.
