How to Vary a Workout Program
If you find yourself getting bored while doing the same workouts every day or if you are no longer seeing results, it may be time to change your workout routine. By introducing simple changes into your daily exercises, you can continue to see weight loss and muscle-building results, and you can become more interested in the new workouts.
- Change the weight and repetitions you use for weight training. For instance, use lighter weights and do more repetitions, and then rotate with heavier weights and fewer repetitions. The more varied you make your strength training, the more your muscles will work to get in shape.
- Switch your workout schedule including the days and times you choose to workout. If you have been working out in the afternoon, begin alternating morning with afternoon workouts on different days of the week, being sure to take a day off at least once a week. Try changing the days you workout as well, where one week you do your workout program on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, while the next week you workout Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
- Create a workout routine that incorporates some fun. Listen to your favorite music while you do strength straining, or watch television while running on the treadmill at home. Find exercises that are out of the ordinary but still burn calories, such as dance cardio, Zumba or kickboxing.
- Learn to use different workout machines and incorporate them into your weekly workout program. If you often visit a gym for your workouts, ask an employee to show you how to use equipment you have never used before, such as an elliptical trainer or exercise ball.
- Change your walking or running route by walking in a different direction, running on a trail near your home or finding a walking route that may be more challenging, such as hills rather than flat land.
