How to Weld Brake Hose Brackets
High performance cars often require high performance brake service. Knowing how to weld brake hose brackets is a common task for mechanics. It doesn't take long to weld on brake hose brackets, and you can do it yourself. It is recommended that you have experience in welding in order to accurately and safely perform this brake service.
If you are working on high performance race cars or muscle cars, you may need to weld the brake hose brackets on the axle that secures the brake hose. Take care not to pass electricity through any moving parts of the car when welding, and find a clean spot to weld.
Follow the brake hose bracket welding instructions below, and you should have your brackets welded, sealed and protected in less than an hour.
Things You Will Need:
- MIG Welder with Grinding Tool
- Welder's Mask
- Brake Hose Bracket
- Trim Black Paint/ Sealer
- Find the brake hose bracket location, and line it up correctly. This location may vary depending on the car you are servicing.
- Grind the axle clean at the spot where the bracket goes on to the axle.
- Grind a clean spot on the side of the axle to get a good ground prior to welding. This will help you to generate good heat penetration and a solid weld.
- Using a MIG welder with the heat and wire speed turned half way up, begin to weld the brake hose bracket to the axle until firmly welded on.
- Paint and rustproof the welded area with trim black paint to protect the axle and brake hose brackets.
- Once your brake hose brackets are welded on, sealed and protected, you can continue on to other areas of your high performance brake service and maintenance of your muscle or street racecar.
