How to get Roofing Estimates
To get roofing estimates, contact a roofing company to examine your roof. You may want to ask for estimates from several companies to ensure you are receiving an accurate analysis of what needs to be done and how much it will cost.
1. Consider the condition of your roof. If you suspect hail damage, a tornado has passed through or your roof hasn't been replaced in many years, it may be time to do some work, or replace your roof.
2. Find a roofing company. Ask trusted friends and neighbors for recommendations. Look in your phonebook or search the Internet for the names of roofing companies in your area.
3. Call the roofing companies. The general practice is to send a representative to examine your roof. The estimate is generally free of charge and intended to inform you of the exact condition of your roof and what materials are required to fix it.
4. Ask the roof inspector for detailed information. Your roof shingles may have hardened. The edges of the shingles may have shrunk, or there may be cracks. Blisters may appear in the shingles due to excessive heat. Ask the inspector to share with you the exact nature of the damage and how much it will cost to fix.
5. Obtain documentation from the roof inspector. Roofing companies will generally provide documentation that states the extent and nature of the roof repair or replacement and the associated costs. If you have insurance, you must present this document to the insurance company.
6. Contact your insurance company. Insurance companies typically send an adjustor to your home for an inspection. Compare the estimate of the roofing company with the insurance adjustor's report to determine if the roof repair costs will be covered in full.
